You can't prevent split ends. You just have to take really good care of your hair. Drinking water won't help because you hair is already dead so water does nothing for that. You can get rid of split ends by getting you hair trimmed. Just get it trimmed at a salon when the split ends get really bad. But when there are only a few split ends then you can cut it your self which would save you money by not going to the salon so often.

Split ends are caused by damage, drinking water doesn't do anything for the end of your hair only the root.
First, make sure you get your hair trimmed frequently.
Brushing: always use a bristle hair brush preferably of Boar hair, try never to brush your hair when it is wet, it is more fragile and prone to breaking.
Sun: Too much exposure can dry your hair out and damage the ends
Hair products: don't wash your hair every day, but when you do, use gentle cleaners that won't strip hair. Do not use a blow dryer or curling iron -ever! Limit or don't use hairspray, gel or mousse, they cause build up and/or strip your hair.
Buns: actually not a good thing for your hair, causes kinks in the strand which ultimately break
Try to not use non-coated elastic bands or any metal pins in your hair. Scrunchys and cloth are the best.
Hope that helps and good luck

You may need to get the ends trimmed more often. Some hair products that say they end split ends don't actually fix them but they will make them look better. Drinking water doesn't have much to do with preventing split ends. The next time you get your hair trimmed, you may want to ask the stylist what type of shampoo and conditioner works best for your type of hair.

For long and strong hair follow these steps
1.) Remove styling product residue which can dull hair and make it look damaged, you can use a clarifying shampoo or apple cider vinegar as a rinse followed by shampoo.
2.) once you have removed product build up,find a shampoo that does not contain Sodium laurel sulfate use products that do as not contain synthetic ingredients because these will build up on your hair leading to limpness, and even loss of hair.
3.)whenever you blow dry your hair be sure to use a diffuser and and with a leave in conditioner or conditioning styling product.
4.) Be sure you are getting enough protein in your diet, and minerals through things like meat, nuts, and beans, essential fats like flax, fish and olive oil, minerals from green vegetables, spinach and seaweeds.take a balanced multi-vitamin and extra biotin, zinc and silica this will help stimulate hair growth from the inside out.
5.)get regular trims, thin hair can become damaged at the ends very easily keep your hair trimmed regularly so your ends stay protected,do not brush hair when wet,use a wide toothed comb instead and be careful thin hair is fragile and will snap easily, don't use elastics or harsh ponytails loose hairstyles or up in a bun are best.

I have thick, long, wavy hair. I usually have to straighten everyday which leads to a ton of split ends. I do a couple things to prevent them.
1). I only use ceramic flat irons. They disperse the heat evenly and prevent "hot spots" in your hair.
2). I blow dry on medium heat. Yes, it takes forever, but its much much better on your hair.
3). Whenever I'm blow drying or using the flat iron, i always have some sort of product in my hair. This allows the heat from the flat iron to burn/melt the product instead of your hair.
Another thing I do is a few times a week, I'll put a strong leave-in only on the tips of my hair.

I also have long hair, try trimming every other month. Just a trim, so you don't see any length difference. Maybe an inch. Then every other month, keep trimming an inch. Also try a leave in treatment, like Infusium every day, or when you wash it. Instead of mousse. Just put a little leave-in treatment on it while it's wet. Also I recommend an Ionic blow-dryer. They are wonderful. It doesn't damage your hair like a traditional dryer. I hope that helps hun, it does for me!

drinking water has nothing to do with split ends. once the hair grows out of the roots, it is dead. so the ends of your hair are dead. they split because they are dry. the only way to prevent it from splitting is to keep it healthy... using good shampoos and conditioners (professional brands), using hair moisturisers for the ends of your hair, getting regular hair trims, and being careful when brushing your hair not to stretch it out too much which can casue breakage.

Get regular trimmings every 4-6 weeks and avoid using excessive heat on your hair like blow drying, curling irons, flat irons. Don't sleep with your hair wet either that can cause a lot of damage to your hair.

To prevent future split ends, brush your hair from the bottom up -- brushing from the crown down can rip your hair

Use a shampoo that prevents breakage, and use a hot oil treatment at least once a week. When you go to your hair stylist, get your hair trimmed once every two to three weeks.
