I am not sure of the lingering heath effects of having teeth pulled. If I had to replace my teeth being pulled I would probably simply get the root canals done. If I can live without my two upper molars I think I would just get them pulled.

I have actually already had my 4 wisdom teeth pulled, so I am referring to the last molar on both the right and left side (not counting my wisdom teeth that are no longer there). I am not sure if that would make a difference with the responses I am getting. Thank you all that have responded so far.

Have the root canals and save the teeth if possible. Removing teeth can affect the alignment of your remaining teeth in the jaw as well as cause problems with chewing. It's smarter from both a cosmetic and mechanical standpoint to save teeth if you can.

As someone else pointed out, a good dentist can do root canals painlessly and quickly -- it's not the major procedure it used to be, at least not in terms of recovery. You should have no pain at all.

Good luck!

Do you want to save the teeth? That's the question. If the answer is yes; get a root canal and plan on having the tooth crowned. The biggest reason root canals fail is user error by not getting them crowned within a reasonable amount of time. It doesn't have to take place immediately, but it needs to take place within a couple of years, depending on your indivdual teeth.

My two front teeth have been crowned for almost 10 years and I have had no trouble out of the root canals or crowns.

If you don't mind having the space there, then get them pulled, but be aware your teeth can migrate with a significant amount of space and cause problems if you don't get bridge work to maintain the space.

It all depends on what you're comfortable with.

Oh, yeah, you can live without your molars, but I would suggest the joy of the root canal for this reason: once you have teeth pulled, the adjacent teeth lose some of their support and can become loose themselves. The other problem can be that the teeth remaining can have decay on them that exposure to air will simply accelerate the decay further, requiring them to be pulled at a later time when they go bad. My counsel is this, do whatever it takes to keep your original equipment, it's alot more expensive, but in the long run, well worth it.

I have had molars pulled one on each side on the bottom. It has been very difficult chewing. At times when chewing hard foods like chips or meat, I have cut my gum where the tooth use to be. It is very painful. I have gotten a bridge on one side and plan to get one on the other but is is very expensive.
Answer to your question. Yes Get a Root Canal and then a cap on that. Save your teeth.

If they are on the same side you might have a problem chewing. Always save teeth is you can. A root canal done by a specialist is fast and painless and you just have a filling.
