Because there are so many people who want to pick and choose what they will believe and they establish or follow anyone who can tickle their ears with what they want to believe. There is only one truth...Jesus Christ and He gave us clear direction on His teachings, some are just rejecting that Truth to follow their own way.

the reason there are so many religions is because people have become followers of men instead of listening to God. It is interesting that the teachings they all hold in common, but that are different from what the Bible teaches, actually originated in ancient Babylon.
The instigator of such religious confusion is Satan the Devil, who for the time being controls both the religious and political systems of this world.
The Bible says that there is only one faith.(Ephesians 4:5) That one faith is approved by God. Remember that Jesus told the religious leaders that they were not doing what was right, even though they thought they were. Not all religions then are approved by God. Jesus told the Chief Priests, Scribes, Pharisees and Sadducees that they were hypocrites and they were like the blind leading the blind. He also said they were from their father, the devil. Eventually they conspired to put Jesus to death, which they finally accomplished.
So was the religion they belonged to the right one? No, Jesus said it was inspired by Satan.
We must examine our religion to see if it is the one approved by God as Romans 3:4 says: "--let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged."

Satan the Devil has caused all false religions to arise to confuse people and lead them away from the one true religion. He knows he has a short period of time before God will destroy him and his world (Revelation 12:9-12) so he is trying to take down as many people with him as he can.

Simply because religions were established a long time ago,
when each race came to their own conclusions. There was no
contact with others to exchange ideas and certainly no
Internet!

because of people following their own free will. every time a mainstream religion has decenter and enough of them band together to form a totally different religious offshoot they do so. this band of descenders will then form the nucleus of a new religious belief system. thus a new religion is born.

Because if we were all the same religion, what would use as an excuse to go to war? What would Bush do if all the Saudi oil was owned by Christians? He'd be f*cked! "Let's go to war against the Christians!" Doesn't quite work, does it?

The awareness of God is in all, but all do not acknowledge Him.
Many people seem to prefer to make their own gods, such as:
- peoples own perceived intelligence becomes there god
- self worship
- animals
- drugs
- sex
- science
- just about anything that people can imagine will become godly to people, but somehow they fail to recognize the One God and His Son Jesus
Also, men created religions to divide themselves and to be able to control people through their own interpretations.
