What a shame the two Rottweiler's was put down,I blame the owners I dont think those two dogs never left the back yard of that pub. They never got used to people just locked up all the time, it could of been any dog it is how you bring them up it's the owners who should have been put down.

First of all my heart does go out to the parents who lost their daughter it must have been horrific to say the least and they will have to live with what has happened for the rest of their lives which is punishment enough.
The dogs according to many papers where guard dogs and had a service to be guard dogs. I agree the parents should have known better they moved into pub whilst owners where away taking in a five month old baby with them. These dogs would not have been used to not only the noise or smell of the baby but also having strangers in the house.. To leave the baby if it was unattended was and is MADNESS in itself. No matter how tame a dog bring a baby into the house and the attention goes on to it then there is a disaster waiting to happen. Unless there is a bloody responsible owner who knows and understands its dog.
I feel for all who lost their lives, the baby and the two dogs as both need adult guidance and responsibility and commitment from THE ADULTS!

ONCE AGAIN THE BLAME IS PUT ON THE DOGS, when it was the moronic owners that are to blame, you should never leave a baby alone with any breed of dog, this was TOTALLY irresponsible. Rottweiler dogs can make great pets if they are taught properly either as a family pet or as a professionally trained guard dog, many people who own them shouldn't as they don't know how to train or look after them correctly. I'm fed up of these breeds of dogs as well as Bull terriers etc getting such bad press from the media, once again the spotlight and blame is put on the dogs instead of the owners, typical. Why they needed two dogs for a pub is beyond me, one should have sufficed. They are a sturdy powerful breed of dog which need careful attention from a young age but when raised properly can make excellent companions, its people that need training as well if not more so. That poor baby didn't stand a chance because of its incompetent parents, don't think THEY were ready to have a baby let alone two powerful dogs. It disgusts me!

Yes I agree with you, though I am not really a fan of Rottweilers on the whole. However, I agree that it doesn't sound like it is the dog's fault, it is the way they were brought up. However, dangerous dogs like that should be euthanised for their own and everybody else's safety but it is such a shame.
Still, you cannot complain about that in view of the fact that a child is now dead.
Why do people have these dangerous dogs when there are such lovely ones, such as Labradors, Golden Retrievers and the like? I simply don't understand it.

People shouldn't trust animals and children together by themselves. Very sad what happened - the child may have provoked the dogs by crying or pulling their tails or something... Of course, the child may not have done anything and the dogs were just vicious. Sad but this seems to happen a lot. The dogs were used as guard dogs for security and therefore perhaps shouldn't have been thought of as pets and left with the child. I'm sure the facts will come out.

I have to agree with your opinion. This is a horrendous tragedy but the dogs should not be found at fault. The poor babe should not have been left unsupervised and those poor dogs obviously had a terrible life, knowing nothing other than aggression. The owners of the dogs should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen and being irresponsible dog owners- dogs can be taught to guard whilst also knowing when to stop when commanded to. These dogs were obviously uncontrollable.

no it was right they were put down, they killed a defenceless 5 month old baby, how could she have done anything to provoke them.the dogs mauled her like a rag doll, yes the owners are also to blame for not training the dogs properly & by all accounts the dogs were left on flat roofs all the time, its tragic but once a dog has turned & killed it can never be trusted again.someone here blamed the parents, dont u think they feel terrible enough without that kind of good advice? Apparently the owners were the babies grandparents, they have to live with this forever that its punishment enough.

Some breeds are naturally inclined to be more aggressive than others... rottwailers are sadly known to be quite "bad" dogs, and their bodies are built to fight...short and thick neck, massive teeths. easy to turn a small puppy into a bloody machine once it becomes an adult...
if only the owners did not instigate their dogs, ugly incidents like this would never happen that often. unfortunately there is not regulation for owners of dogs... they should have a special licence to keep potentially dangerous animals issued.

I do agree with you. These dogs were trained as guard dogs and weren't socialized around anybody but the owners. You have to socialize Rottweilers. I am an owner of a Rottie, and have children. I do not leave them by themselves at home anyway. Our dog has been raised as a puppy around my kids and is more loving to them than our rat terriers.
I am all for having a license if need be, and we have taken her to alot of training classes. I truly feel bad for all the parties in this sad story. You know the Grandparents feel bad for their granddaughter, but it makes me so disgusted as to why they left that baby by itself (dog or no dog). And on top of that, since they did have GUARD DOGS, why put her in harms way?!

I agree it's unfair for the dogs, however, though it wasn't their fault, those dogs had to be put down.
They clearly show the dangers of not bringing up animals properly. They are capable of great harm, and in this case death, if not trained and treated properly.
It's a shame the dogs had to die, but it's an even greater shame that an innocent baby was killed so violently.

The sad reality is that they were doing their job! They were guard dogs and thats what they were doing, but once a dog has tasted blood thay want more!
Its a terrible accident that happened to the baby, grandma and grandad, just think how the poor parents have to cope with that the rest of their lifes.
How dare you blame the parents, what do you think they wanted the dogs to maul their baby, for gods sake have some heart you heartless bar stuards!
