I had the same problem, (I'm the American). After discussion with a solicitor, it did seem that marriage was the easiest and quickest answer. So, we had a quickie wedding at the City Hall in New York, went to the British consulate the next day and within four hours I had a permanent resident stamp in my passport. At the time, it was a short term solution, realising that we loved each other but weren't ready for marriage, but 6 years on, we are still very much in love and a happily married couple. Good luck!

I did it and it works.I work as a taxi driver earning £280 per week,I have 7 children now and i have a 5 bed council house rent free,£360 per week in benifit,free health care,free school meals and 30 members of my family all live in the same street as they let them in to.Oh i do love ENGLAND..

Easiest way is to go to the interior ministry and renew, or take a short tripout of the country(ryanair it) or get married

Check with whatever the British equivalent is of the US Department of State. (Home office, maybe?)
