what are signs and/or symptoms of a man that is grieving the ending of a long-term relationship? If the man is in a new relationship how does it affect his new relationship?

its different for everybody. if he was cheating he will probably smother you with the affection and respect that he knows he was lacking in the previous relationship. if she was cheating he probably will have a lot of trust issues. if things just kind of died out you might feel like you're the only one in this relationship. as long as he isn't mistreating you everything should be OK. it may just be easier to ask him about it.

Here's a song that describes it perfectly:

Learnin' The Blues W Ella Fitzgerald LYRICS
source:Louis Armstrong Time:2005-08-10

Ella: The tables are empty
The dance floor's deserted
You play the same love song
It's the tenth time you've heard it

That's the beginning
Just one of the clues
You've had your first lesson
In learnin' the Blues

The cigarettes you light
Won't help you forget him
One after another

And the way that you loved him
You're only burning
But you're on the right track
A torch you can't lose
For learnin' the blues
When you're at home alone

The blues will taunt you constantly
The Blues will haunt your memory
When you're out in a crowd

The nights when you don't sleep
But you can't forget him
The whole night you're cryin'

Soon you even stop tryin'
You walk the floor
And wear out your shoes
When you feel your heart break
You're learnin the blues
Louis: Yes, the tables are empty

The dance floor's deserted

And You play the same love song, Whoa, yes
It's the tenth time you've heard it, yes
Man, it's the beginnin'
Just one of those cluessssss

He will be quiet and with draw from you affection or he will close his eyes when you make love. you will see him drink more if he is a drinker, he will come up with ways to spend time by himself such as working on the car or in the garage

I would think he would always be talking about his ex and maybe not giving you the affection he can.
I hope for your sake he is still not in touch with his ex. It is not healthy for your relationship.
