Because believing is an open door through which you may see him, and a relationship is entering into his living bounty.
What you don't understand, perhaps, is that when you accept salvation, Jesus enters your life and begins teaching you and guiding you, if you will seek contact with him.
Some people believe but don't have active, living faith because they don't spend time in communication with Jesus.
This is hard to comprehend for someone who doesn't believe. I mean, how can you believe what people are saying about a relationship with Christ if you have not had this experience? It sounds like "delusion" or "wishful thinking" to people who haven't had the experience.
If you seek a relationship with Jesus, it will all become clear to you. And then you will no longer go to other people to ask questions that God himself will answer for you by entering your life.

Have you ever had a mother-daughter conversation, where just you and your mom talked about anything that came to your mind or heart? You could actually FEEL your mother's words of comfort or compassion on certain subjects, things that you could not possibly discuss with anyone else! Now imagine that you and your mother were apart from one another and the only way of communication was by phone, you could still hear her voice and FEEL the compassion and comfort in her voice. You and your mother have a personal relationship, you do not have to see one another, but just hearing her voice, and feeling her love for you can make you feel so much better. This is the same with a "personal relationship" with Jesus, we don't have to see Him, but we can hear His voice and feel His Spirit when we seek Him. He hears our prayers or "our talk" and He is always ready to listen. I believe that you may need to pray for an open mind and heart and ask Jesus into your heart that you too might have a "personal relationship" with Him. He would so love to hear from you. I will be praying for you Sara, In John 17 :4-5 Jesus is in the garden talking to His Father just before He was betrayed. 4) I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. 5) And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. Now there's a personal relationship between Father and Son. Praise The Lord!! God Bless you Sara

Because a personal relationship is what I mean. I talk to Him daily and Pray to Him daily and I walk the path He leads me down for the most part. When I get off track, He helps me find my way again. It is more of a symbolic thing than a doctrine I suppose.

Probably because they are trying to draw a line between "saving faith" and "nominal faith". The book of James says that mere faith is not enough, because even the demons in Hell believe in God. One must have a level of faith that prompts obedience.
There is also the fact that Christianity IS personal. Paul says in Romans to work out you own salvation through fear and trembling. You have to pray (talk) to God yourself. You have to meditate (listen) to God yourself. You have to study the Bible for yourself and figure out what it means. And you have to obey God yourself. No one can be good for you. Ultimately, other people cannot really pray for you, if you do not pray to Jesus yourself. You are not a Christian because your parents are Christian, or because you talk to a Priest who prays for you. You are Christian only if you have personal contact with Jesus yourself.

Jesus is my Lord and Savior, He died for our sins, and through His blood sacrifice I am made worthy to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
I pray to God in the name of Jesus, He intercedes with God on my behalf.
Our relationship is very personal, one on One.

I have a personal relationship as I talk to Him and Listen to Him. The disciples had a personal relationship with Him, so this is inferred.

Because you can have a real life honest to goodness relationship with Him. Once you receive His Holy Spirit you have a deep intimate knowledge of who He is and you want to know Him better.

Because they want the fact that they know him personally and can communicate with him on a daily basis to be understood, so that those who need real tangable help can know where they can go to receive such help.
