I just got a 6 year old Huskie/Shepard mix and she is a big dog, and the biggest problem with her is it doesn't matter how much i brush her, there is hair every where, Is there something I can do so she doesn't loose so much hair???

My friend's mom has two very large hairy dogs. Her son is very allergic to them. About two weeks before he comes home she starts putting vegetable oil in their food. It controls shedding and makes their skin healthier so that their dander isn't that bad as well....try that. I do it for my dog as well and have found that it works to keep the coat healthy (I don't have a shedding problem because my dog is a Maltese).

If you do not like shedding why did you get the most shedding animal on earth?
This breed mix of dogs is going to shed year round and twice per year it is going to come out in clumps. Huskies shed all the time as do shepards. They are both sort of a long haired breed and it is just the nature of the breed. With the long double coat you will have hair all the time. Brushing helps and you may want to get a brush called and undercoat rake to help remove the hair faster and make the time you do speand brushing more effective.
Good luck.

If you listen to any of these make it this one.
Buy the tool called FURminator. I have a siberian husky- i feel your pain. no matter how much you vaccum there is always hair. I have lots of dog grooming tools and once a week I hook him to the picnic table outside, when I'm done it looks like it has snowed. I found this tool in Pet Smart they should have one on display at the one near you. I brought him into the store and tried it. They're kindof expensive but they work. Now it's more like I vaccum every other day.
Huskie/shepard- I bet she's beautiful!

I bought a shedding comb. It looks very odd, it has a U-shaped piece of metal or something on a handle. The metal has little teeth on it that pulls all of the loose hair right out. When I finish brushing my dog there is enough hair to cover a whole other dog. I have a lab/chow mix. She sheds constantly so I feel your pain. They sell shampoo's and vitamins, but I have found them pretty useless .... good luck! and like the other person, I have to vacuum everyday as well, it is terrible. You would think the dog wouldn't have any hair by now.

I think you will find this is a seasonal thing. My dog is shedding as the days get longer. Soon his winter coat will grow in and the shedding will slow down dramatically. Keep brushing her every day, that will help with the process. It will happen again in the spring when she sheds her winter coat. It's something you just have to live with.

I have a siberian husky and he sheds pretty much all year! He gets brushed every day outside and we have laminate floor in the house. I take him swimming a couple of times a week in a cold lake, and he loves it. It does seem to improve his coat condition as well, and the cooler i keep him the better. Hope it helps.

So sorry to hear that you are upset. I have a Rhodeisan Ridgeback puppy and he sheds constantly. I keep vacuuming and spraying rug freshner. I haven't found anything to stop it. You could check with your vet. Take care sue:)

i would verify with a vet that the shampoo that you are using is correct for it's skin type....they have the same needs as we do...if i have oily hair and a friend has dry scalp, we don't use the same shampoo...but again it is a seasonal thing and it totally natural for any animal....check into that if it is extensive though....

my vet told me that if you put about a teaspoon or so of fish oil in their food, it greatly reduces the shedding. you can buy it in pet stores. it does actually work. i used it on my dog for awhile
