I have got 5 years experience in SAP SD as a functional user form manufacturing industry. I am planning my future carrier as SAP - SD consultant. Would it be worth shifting? Will my functional experience help me?

Yes!

Without knowing your exact experience in detail, I can't make any guarantees. However, in my opinion, you are more qualified to pursue a career as a SAP functional consultant than 90% of the people that ask questions on this site.

Experience is golden, and five years of SAP SD experience is more valuable than months of SAP training courses.

Your next step really depends on how confident and prepared to chuck yourself in the deep end you are.

If you are somewhat reticent, you could apply to consulting companies in your area that do SAP. These companies are always looking for new people, and may even send you on SAP training courses.

Alternatively, you could start applying for contracts, and possibly send yourself on a course or two down the line. The pay is better with this option, but if a client is paying you directly, they may expect more than if you were working for a consulting company.

Good luck.
