Sounds like some type of eczema. Take him to the vet. They should be able to diagnose it pretty quick.

You need to go to the vet. He has a skin irritation. It might be the shampoo you are using on him. The vet will give you the proper shampoo for him to get rid if the irritation and dry skin. Some dogs have dandruff just like people. Could be bugs under the skin. But the vet can determine what is really affecting him.

It sounds to me as though he could have some kind of skin problem going on there. Its worth getting him checked out by a vet, as if it is something like ringworm, that can be contracted by humans, or mange, which can - eventually - take over the dog's entire body. If the skin scrapings check out as clear, then he's bored. Be home more, take him out more, employ a dog walker - whatever it takes!

I would try the cortizone spray to help stop the itching and then neosporin to help heal. However I do have one dog that loves neosporin we have to hide it or he will eat the whole tube. He starting to grow out of it but if we use it in the house he follows you trying to lick it off??
I have discussed with a couple of friends that fleas must have mutated this year because nothing seems to be killing them. My dogs have always had revolution without a problem but its not helping this year. Our group has homes using Frontline / revolution but none of us are having any luck. I bleach my yard to keep them down and still something isn't working.

My Lhaso is doing the exact same thing? I called my cousin who works at the local vet here in my home town, and she said to use penatin, or desitin diaper cream, or you know what else you can use? Which sounds discustiing, but i did and her hair is now growing back, and scabs are leaving also, breast ointment for nursing mothers, and its also a great thing to get due to the itching, dog wont stop immediately, and its fine to get in mouth as well!!!

My miniature doberman used to do that. I was told it was allergies and you could take it to the vet and get an allergie shot or give it like half of a Benedryl. Also i rubbed baby oil on the spot where there was no hair. But i was told you could use motor oil and it would help the hair grow back. Hope i could help!!

This is not only common, but has many MANY reasons why he keeps chewing the hair off his tail. It could be allergies, it could be thyroid, it could be mange. Best thing for you to do is to get a proper diagnosis to treat your sweet baby. Don't let him suffer with it...it can be fixed!

He could have some type of infestation, rash, or a nervous habit. Take him to the Veternarian for a check up.

It's allergies. He needs to be put on steroids or antihistimines.
