my recommendation would be NOT TO DO IT. IT WILL GO ORANGE and you WILL fry your hair. I guarantee it. I would even bet money on it. Go to a professional. I spend more time in a week fixing up peoples at home bodgy hair colour jobs then i do doing nice colour jobs. It's not worth it. You will wreck your hair and it will cost you more to get it fixed. Don't be a scunge on this one. The whole reason that us hairdressers go and get educated for FOUR YEARS is so we know how to do YOUR hair. Give us a go.

I'm not sure but I think you need to remove a lot of the black color before you go lighter. The bleach may cause a chemical reaction so I would go to a professional and at least ask questions about the whole process even if you don't get the work done there.

Unless you friend is a hairdresser (in which you can kindly disregard everything I'm going to say), all I can say is prepare for permanent bad-hair days. Amateurs can NEVER apply bleach properly, and your hair will end up dry, brittle, hard to manage and prone to split ends, breakage and weakness.

Basically, you're going to have horrible hair, just like every other person that thought it'd be cool to save money by letting some random bleach it for them whose never seen a day of hairdressing school.

Have fun. I'm glad I'm not you right now.

I would be very careful if you are going from died to bleach - it could go some strange colour..!

Personally if you are going for bleach - I do have bleached blonde I would go to a hairdresser to be on the safe side. There are those out there that will not charge you the earth.

Use a discolourant first, because the bleach alone will not get your hair from black to blonde.

You could use the discolourant and bleach from Live (Schwartzkopf, I think) as they're not so agressive.

Get a brown or gold strikes. That will bring out your face. Or get a color that will bring out your eye color.
