When you was the prawns rub them with salt and wash if you still get the fishy smell after the salt wash rub a little flour on the prawns and keep it for a minuite or two and wash it. sometimes you have to wash it 2/3 times with salt and flour alternately but the smell goes for sure if you do it.

You can actually use chlorine bleach in some water and let them soak for a few minutes before cooking, storing, or marinating.

Put 1 Tablespoon of bleach in a gallon of water and that should take the smell away and kill and funky bacteria at the same time. After letting them soak a few minutes be sure to rinse them well... even letting them soak in some fresh water for a few minutes would be best.

If you think then that your prawns taste like bleach then lower your amount used to 1 teaspoon. But really they should be just fine !!

Try this... hope it helps...

After washing and removing the vein, put them under running tap water for a short while, drain well. Marinate the prawns with cooking wine, grounded white pepper, a pinch of salt and a little bit of sugar and some corn flour for 15 minutes to 20 minutes before you cook them. If you are going to deep fry them, you have to drain them well and dry with paper towel. The smell would go away.

You may also put garlic powder or ginger powder in your marinade, it is good at getting rid of fishy smell.

Fresh shrimp (prawns) should be odorless. Try a different fish market.
