The best solution is two-fold. One, stop opening your mouth and Two, stop putting food in your mouth.
If you must eat after midnight, keep something good for you around. Some fruit or a vegetable you like. Do not eat packaged crap. The best way to avoid eating Twinkies and such is to NOT BUY THEM.
Cheers, and good luck.

I have the same problem. Even if I eat before going to bed I will wake up an hour later for something to eat. 2 to3 times a night. I have tried several suggestions , but nothing works.

i know what it feels like to have the compulsion to eat.
the urge is so strong its about uncontrollable and you MUST eat!
i hate that.
i have been drinking large amounts of water before i go to bed and if i wake up i have a water bottle on my night stand. for some reason if i wake up to go pee then i can go right back to sleep. if i just wake up for no reason then i feel like i have to eat. don't ask why. lol.
if the urge refuses to go i read a very boring book until i fall back asleep. the book helps to distract my line of thought.
just be sure the book has no food entries or that will bring you right back to where you started. i usually read the same one over and over. i know its boring but that's the point.
i hope i helped in some way.
good luck.

I had the same problem and gained 20 pounds. I forced myself to eat salads --- lettuce, carrot sticks, celery with cheese --- etc. The urge to eat went away. Took a year to lose the 20 pounds. Been "cured" for 5 years now.

It sounds like you are having a sugar craving. Try and up you amino acids (protein building blocks). You can purchase hemp protein from your health food shop (www.red23.co.uk) this will help stabilise your sugar cravings. Also you may have some fond memories from childhood that may be calling you back to relive the good times. Consider going back to those memories and say good night to your child self and reassure your child self that everything will be o.k.

have a heavy dinner and drink water before sleeping..this way, u won't feel hungry and your craving for snacking might stop...also, try eating fruits instead...keep an apple or pear beside ur bed...that way, wen u feel like snacking, you can eat the fruits...and you won't gain a pound...
good luck!

1. Dont stock up the snacks...!!
2. Find ways to sleep harder (alcohol/medicine/exercise)
3. If you must keep snaks in your house - make them really inaccessible
4. Keep horrible stuff as snack food (dog biscuits / dried cabbage / and other pungent and inedible things) - bad memories will ensure you dont wake up
:)

Water...drink a bottle of water before bed...even if you have to get up and hit the bathroom...its better than getting up and eating. water does many things, satisfying the midnight urges to eat is one of them
