Recent RTA project electrobrake comes into play but this will take several years seeing as replacement cars will need to come in play. It is basically a coating of electrofield emitting paint or diode in a car's coat of paint or engine etc. which emits and electromagnetic pulse which if strikes a close range car hard the brake will be immediately applied to prevent the collision of the cars. This project is coming out soon as soon as the perfect the electromagnetic fields so they will pick up "specific car signals" only and not other microwaves and slipups.

Well I real like all the answers people have gave I really like the working brains that would help alot and cell phones, make-up, and eating would really help But mostly the most help would be haveing more officers on the road right now we only have 5 troopers per County that is not much we need 5 per shift . one county is alot of roads to patrol. By the way using cellphones while driving is a law and up to a $250 ticket for doing so , but with 5 officers and 850miles of roads( just one County out of 67 ) to keep patroled it's hard to give tickets to everyone that breakes the law.

Well, I just read all of the other responses and not too much original there. I love the idea of the in-car breathalizer, but how about electronically limiting the speed of cars for the state you live in? If the max speed in your state / country is 65 mph, then limit the car to 65 or 70 mph.

How about making sure the drivers all have working brains?
It's not the car's fault that accidents happen. Not once have I heard of cars running into things because it was eating lunch! Or talking on the cell phone.
Let's make a law that all drivers should have working brains and common sense and know how to use them.

the biggest single contribution is unquestionably... the individual. each individual has the responsibility of being safe.. in all aspects of driving. its not just your life at stake, its the lives of every driver you see on the road, their passengers, your passengers, bystanders and so forth. you do your part.. i'll do my part and so on.

somehow ban drinking and driving, get blood alcohol off the damn road. while we're at it, ban cell phones, make-up, and eating too. cars should be for driving, not living in.
