Do you remember what happened, or have any idea why it happened?

I'm 28 and this still happens to me occasionally, especially if I'm really over-tired or stressed out. I'm just trying to get a sense of how common it is for adults to have this happen, whether it's a recurring thing or whether it just happens once, completely out of the blue. If you honestly haven't done it since you were 3, or don't remember when the last time was, that's OK, I'd like to hear that too.

Serious and honest answers are much appreciated... thanks...

I've had the physical work-ups and everything, and basically been told I just have a small bladder, and am (at least at times) a sound sleeper... normally I wake up and go to the bathroom during the night, but on the odd night when I'm so tired I sleep right through it, the bladder keeps filling till it reaches its limit, and... you can do the math. I know that there are meds and alarms available for treatment, but it happens so rarely in my case that I've concluded (at least for the time being) that these probably aren't worth the investment at this point. If it gets worse down the road I could easily revise that, though.

Mainly, I've just been told on numerous occasions that this condition is a lot more common in young adults than most people think, and I was just curious whether anyone in a "random" collection of answer-ers might have also experienced this? Thanks for all of your honest input; it is really helpful just to hear how others understand or have experienced this. :)

Hello,

I was 2 years old and wet the bed, the first night my mother scolded me, then the second night she spanked me. About a month later, I wet the bed, she scolded me, and the next day she spanked me. I have not wet the bed since.

My siblings have all wet the bed until later years. My youngest sister wet the bed and when Mom spanked her, she found out she actually had a kidney infection. My brother wet the bed because he was hyperactive and wore himself out all day so he slept all night. He would sometimes walk in his sleep and go and pee in the tub.

Some people wet the bed when they dream of peeing. I often dream of having to pee, but can't for some reason and thankfully, I have not actually peed. I can see where that might happen.

I found this on a website about one person: Adult bed-wetting
Question

My partner is 30 years old and has been having trouble with bed-wetting off and on for a few years. The doctor said they can only offer him an alarm for the bed. He is a very heavy sleeper — do you think he has a psychological problem?

Answer

Bed-wetting in adults is more common than many people think, and can have a variety of causes, either physical or psychological. If your partner has not found his current doctor's response helpful, then I would urge him to make an appointment with another GP. It is often worth asking around to find the name of a doctor whom other people have found particularly helpful and willing to make a real effort to deal with an issue like this.
An important first step would be a full medical examination to see if there is any physical cause, such as a urinary tract infection, for example, which can be treated and thus clear up this symptom. If there is no clear physical cause diagnosed, then the doctor should discuss any possible psychological or stress-related problems which may be associated with the problem. It's important to be absolutely honest and frank with the doctor about any psychological issues, as this will help decide on any psychological treatment — either by the doctor or a psychologist — which will address the cause of the problem.

And here is one from the mayo clinicAdult bed-wetting: A concern?

My 24-year-old husband, who is in good health, has started to wet the bed at night. What would cause this? Should we be concerned?

Answer
Bed-wetting that starts in adulthood — also called secondary enuresis — is uncommon and requires medical evaluation. Cause may include:

Diabetes
Urinary tract infection
Urinary tract stones
Prostate enlargement
Bladder cancer
Neurological disorders
Rarely, acute anxiety or other emotional disorders may be the cause of adult bed-wetting. A doctor may be able to identify the cause of adult bed-wetting based on:

Medical history
Physical examination
Urine tests
Urologic examinations and tests
Neurological evaluation
Treatment is directed at the underlying cause, when possible.

Honestly, last year when I was in the hospital for a PICC line infection.

I was throwing up in the bedpan so hard that I ended up urinating in the bed. It didn't help that I was running one hell of a fever and had a UTI at the same time, too. All I know is I was so embarrassed to have to ring for the nurse to change my sheets and request medication - which, since I wasn't allowed anything by mouth, I had to take in a suppository form.

Since you're so young and are seemingly in good health, I would talk to a doctor and get a complete physical if I were you. Just tell him what's going on and tell him when it happens - he might be able to diagnose the problem and give you medication to help.

Good luck.

EDIT: Hmm... well... I really don't know what to tell you then. Does this only happen at night? If so, I hate to say this, but consider wearing Depends or something similar on the nights you feel uber tired. It's a lot less mess to clean up in the morning - and if you have a bedmate, it's a lot less embarrassing, too. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

The loosening of the bladder and bowels is gradual and natural so there's nothing to be ashamed of. last time i did it was in year 11 but I vaguely remeber wetting my pants at swimming after a university lesson...

I have a disability and I have always wet the bed because I have limited bladder and bowel control. I think it is perfectly okay if you still wet the bed.

The last time I remember wetting the bed was in about the 1st grade. I don't know exactly what age.
