Oil has to be broken down to its base components, this process yields... natual gasm diesel, polymers, and many many other chemicals that can be used in everything from gasoline to plastics and medicines. The byproducts are usually and irresponsibly released into the waterways (rivers, lakes, oceans, etc...), air and land thereby contaminating the environment. This contaminates the water table from which we extract our drinking water and water used for farm irrigation... in the end humans and animals consume these tainted products.
