It is just that smoking-related illnesses are self-inflicted, except for second-hand smoke. It is human-nature for people to blame the afflicted, because it distances themselves from considering their own vulnerabilities.

It is the same reason we blame the rape-victim for how she dresses. We blame the parents of an abducted child for not watching them closely enough. This way, we can say it won't happen to us or anyone we love because we are more careful. It is a trick of the mind, that creates a false sense of security.

I have lung disease and everyone assumes that it was from smoking, and have been asked that on numerous occasions. Mine is a genetic disease, but everone thinks that if it is your lungs then you smoked

it's just that the main reason for lung disease is smoking. Don't let people bug you, just explain to them.

Most people know this.... but why do something that is known to be so bad for your body, cost's so much, takes up so much time and productivity, decreases your ability to do physical activity and smells so bad????
