Am I a big jerk? Maybe... I guess you're right. Yeah I'm a really jerk. However like as my instructor told me once "if you don't hate me and think I'm a jerk for being brutally honest and push you so hard then I'm not doing my job"

but guess what? I and his other students usually have much less experience when going against another fighter. For example in my first fight I fought a guy with record of 6-1 and I beat him big time. Most of time I fought guys that out weight me by 10 to 25 lbs and I win most of the fights. One of my friend was replace for a title fight on his fourth fight and he won it. One of my other friend have only 9 fights and went against other guy who have 23 fights. He almost sent that guy to hospital and won the title. We still respect and train under my instructor.

So may you should ask yourself "is this pr!ck trying to be honest and wants the best for others or is he actually a jerk?"

I think TKDAsh is at the wrong training place. The poor kid claims to think about martial arts all the time but he only trains one day a week. If it consuming his mind so much perhaps he really wants to train more. I suggest he find another school but I fear he (or his parents more likely) signed a contract. This is a crooked move that I notice some instructors do. They have you sign a contract and then you are financially obligated to that school for a year, whether you go and study or not.

This is why I urge people to not sign a contract, once you do they own you for the life of the contract.

TKD Ash if you are reading this, you should be training more than one day a week. Please do yourself a favor and have your parents take you to observe other martial art schools in your area. Try for one that has training more than once a week.

C.mon man, he's a kid; only 13, I think he's expecting it to work like the Matrix, and everything that is learned in the Martial Arts just automatically becoming downloaded into the brain after a few lessons.

But unfortunately As you and I, and several other Martial Artists have found, it Takes years and a LOT of practice to learn what we know, and get the experience we have.

We just gotta have patience man, I get a little annoyed with some of the questions.

but we gotta give him the benefit of the doubt, I work with a lot of kids that're his age and younger in the childrens class @ the school I go to.

He just wants it all right now. and it just doesn't happen that way.

I agree with Jerry L, he's got a lot of questions that he needs answerin' and by tellin him he's not cut out for Martial Arts isn't just rude but wrong, just like tellin a kid who wants to play any other sport that they can't just destroys their spirit.

If he sticks with it, he'll learn and grow, but it's gonna take time.

Sometimes I do something and as soon as i do it i feel like the biggest jerk in the world. i spend every second after all i can think is how much of an a**hole i am. i have trouble sleeping, and the next moring i come on this site. look for a ninedemons entry and i feel so much better. because you remind me that no matter what i do and how big of a jerk i was the night before there is someone out there that is a much bigger jerk than me.
thank you.

Dash is just a kid, and like every kid he has a lot to learn, but to say that he isn't cut out for martial arts is simply rude. Everyone should have the opportunity to learn and grow, and he is showing an interest but has a lot of self confidence issues that comments like your's certainly will not help him overcome. Leave the guy alone and let him learn.

yeah, he's just a kid.. but you have a point. He's hoping to be a superstar without putting in any kind of effort what so ever. Trying to fine some justification in his actions and reluctance to take on more classes.
