Plant eating animals are far more numerous... lower on the food chain, therefore more food to go around. A lesson for mankind in there, perhaps? If we were all vegetarian, there would be plenty of food for everyone on the earth because resources would not be wasted feeding animals for us to consume.

ARE there more....and I do believe the answer would have to be plant eating, cause if there were more meat eating animals...we would all be eaten up.
And as a comment to the first response, what a crock of poop!! "If we didn't have to feed all the animals for our own consumption there'd be plenty of food for everyone." Where have you been storing your head? How idiotic is that answer. Humanity has been constantly fighting for survival, whether just in certain areas due to drought, floods, famine.
Food would not be plentiful if we, all of humanity, became vegetarians simply because then we wouldn't have to feed the animals we slaughter...your "logic" could definitely benefit from a little protein, IE MEAT.
Gosh, I would be living in a blissful, carefree world if I was able to think in such remedially barren terms. Bleh!

It's the food chain. There are more at the bottom than the top. More prey animals than predator.
