White Onions?

I use brown onions for all kinds of cookings and red onions for salads, but when do you use white onions?

I prefer white onions for all purposes. One of the most wonderful onions is a cross between a yellow onion and the white granex. Here in Texas, they are called "Noonday" onions because so many are grown near the town of Noonday. They are so sweet you can eat one like an apple.

White onions can be used for anything that you would use brown onions for. The small ones can be used for pickling if you want, but they are basically just a different variety of onion. Some of them are a bit sweeter than brown onions.

The white ones are sweeter and I don't care for them. The red ones I never use. The yellow ones (I assume this is what you mean by brown onions) are the best because they're a bit hot and they give a kick to anything you eat.

I use Vidalias (sweet onions), most of the time. I don't like onions in salads, except for green onions.
But white onions can be used in most cooking-burgers, stews, soups, etc..

Brown and white onions are very similar to me. Red onions have a stronger taste.
I use white onions for soup, sometimes.

I use white onions in soups, chili and stirfry. It holds up better. I prefer it over the yellow onions.

most onions are interchangeable, some are more sweet and some are quite strong flavored but most get more mild as you cook them, if you are making something with raw onions use the sweeter ones ... the hard part is usually peeling and cutting the strong ones :((

I saute Vidalia white onions in vegetable stir fry. They make the vegetables naturally sweet.

I use white onions for making salsa, on burgers, on kabobs... on whatever really!
