What's the difference between a vegetarian and a vegan?
Vegetarians, or lacto-ovo-vegetarians, do not eat any meat products, but they eat dairy products and eggs. Vegetarians need to know whether a product contains gelatine or other meat-based products. Vegans do not consume any animal products.

Labelling: the "V" symbol
In Britain, The Vegetarian Society's V "approved by the Vegetarian Society" symbol is found on products that conform to the Society's criteria for approved foods. The Vegetarian Society has announced that genetically modified ingredients will not be allowed in foods that have the Vegetarian Society's symbol of approval, apart from the use of genetically engineered chymosine, which is an enzyme used in place of calf's rennet in the manufacture of cheese.

Vegetarians, or lacto-ovo vegetarians, cannot eat beef, poultry, fish, birds, pork, or any other animal body part. They also cannot eat gelatin or lard, or wear clothing that is made of real silk, leather or other animal fabrics. Vegans are considerably stricter. They are everything that a vegetarian is, but they cannot consume honey, dairy, eggs, cheese or anything else related to animals. Neither vegetarians nor vegans can use camera film, as it s coated with gelatin (a big word for animal bones). The best way to cook food for a vegetarian is to cook vegan foods, as some vegetarians are half vegetarian half vegan, and some vegetarians do eat fish. If you want to cook for a vegetarian/vegan, go to http://www.vegcooking.com/ or do a search at http://www.petasearch.org/.

A vegan is a subclass of vegetarian. Rather, they are considerably stricter vegetarians.

In addition to not eating meat, vegans don't eat ANYTHING of animal origin such as dairy products and eggs, and some vegans do not even USE animal products such as furs, leather, ivory etc.

(How awful... No vegetarian pizza for those dudes!)
