Excessive thirst could be a symptom of many things, diabetes included. Does she present with any other symptoms? Tiredness? Rapid weight loss? A change in appetite? Smelly breath? Complaining of nausea?

I certainly suggest a trip to the doctors, or if you fancy a good few hrs in a busy A+E department, then to the hospital. The sooner the better, because you need to know for yourself and the long you leave it, the worse it will be.

Good Luck. And remember: Diabetes is not the end of the world, it's just something else to learn to deal with.

talk with the doctor,it may not have tro do with that ,she can just be a thirsty person,I would get a air humidifier clean the air ,especially if shes dealing with 2nd hand smoke.an air conditoner in her room on low, start giving her gatorade to drink it is a thirst quencher made of water.
also my mom was a diabetic,I was feeling tired alot lately I went to the doctor and got a physical and blood work done I am fine I just was under to much stress and not sleeping enough[I haven't worked in awhile and it was stressing me out]anyway, they did'nt rule out diabetes at the time and it was a simple test the nurse used a very tiny needle and pricked my finger enough to wie a drop of blood onto something I dont care to watch[Ibneedles arent scary if you dont really watch them[tell your daughter a joke and have her attention while tyhe doctor does it,its pretty quick they just check your blood sugar.not knowing is the worst thing and its irresponsible, everyone should go to the doctor and take there children.no offense but people think that not going to the doctor will magically make there health problems go away, and in all realty it gets worse, its a shame many people find out that if they went to the doctor when something was first wrong that wouldnt have developed problems.I am just saying don't assume things when it comes to health get the facts, your daughter being thirsty can be for many different reasons it can possibly be natural [humidity ,activity, food she eats,etc...you will feel alot better when you find out for sure.

Okay you don't have to take her to the hospital immediately. I would definately make an appt with your dr. Also, one time several hours after she has brushed her teeth or chewed gum or anything like that smell her breath (or do it first thing in the morning before she brushes her teeth). Most kids breath doesn't smell that great but wnat you are smelling for is kind of a sweet smell. If you smell that I would say that there is a 99% chance that your daughter has diabetes with that and the drinking all the time. So have her checked out and if she is diabetic make sure you follow the dr.'s orders and she will lead a long and healthy life. Good luck!!!

You can check her sugar levels by using her grandmothers meter. Just to give you an idea. (check yours as well if its your mother that is diabetic, that way you can find it early and take care of yourself as soon as possible)

But I would make an appointment with the doctor immediately. Even if she is not diabetic it could be something else.

Time for a Doctor's visit and some testing.

The thirst could easily be a symptom of diabetes, but the only way to know for sure is to get tested.

It could possibly be juvenile onset diabetes. It's much easier to keep under control now. You should take her to her pediatrician. Have you tried Gatorade? If she's thirsty from being active, playing and sweating she may just be overly thirsty. But I wouldn't take any chances and don't worry...she'll be fine.

simple ...have her tested...if not a diabetic, then she's just thirsty. Give her the water that her body needs.

And, you've posted this under diabetes, so you must suspect she has the disease.

Go take her to a doctor before she goes into a diabetic coma!

The human body needs a lot of water. she should be drinking at least at the bare minimum 8 / 12 oz glasses of water a day to flush out toxins from her body. Males need 12 glasses. Unless she shows other signs, I say she probably just need the water so she isn't dehydrated. In the summer we need more water if we are in the heat.
