Hi beach babe. I am a vegetarian too. I think people react to us the way they do because we are a threat to them without even meaning to be. We remind them of how they are responsible for taking the lives of many animals and I think, somewhere deep inside, that bothers them. We don't mean to remind them of this, but just being who we are makes them react. There is nothing we can do about that. Just be peaceful and proud to be part of this wonderful family of vegetarians.

A lot of vegetarians and vegans get the same reaction, myself included. I am assuming it's because the person feels that you may try to "convert" them and in all honesty, they don't truly understand why anybody could want to stop eating meat.

Because people think you are judging thier eating habbits. Maybe you are, maybe you are not. A lot of the times, it is thier own insecurity. I only answer the question when asked and then move on to the next subject. I am very honest, but on the same token I try not to make a big deal about it.

They freak out because they think its hard to give up meat. Also because they probably think your weird, but I am vegetarian, and I love it. I am glad I made the change, and They need to understand that is it your choice, and your own decision to do this. If they freak out and say your weird, you should ignore them or tell them to get out of your buisness. Its all up to you and I'm glad you and me are both vegetarian:)!

I wouldn't freak out. Just remember that everyone is the same, no matter waht we eat, whether we're rich or poor, or "dumb" or smart! Just because we dont eat meat, doesnt make us different. Some people may freak out, because it isn't wat they are used to. Maybe you can find some other vegetarians you can talk with.

Let them freak out that is their problem not yours. They probably feel you are an animal rights person and you will pester them about eating meat or what ever. So let them freak out and do what ever you want to do.

Possibly, because many vegetarians are annoying, preachy, and holier-than-thou. They feel like they are morally superior because they deny their instincts to enjoy a hamburger.
Which brings me to the other possiblity. They may find you fascinating because not eating meat is as strange to most of us as not having sex.

The same happens with me. Alot of people can't get the idea through their head that someone doesn't eat meat. So just ignore it, they have small minds.
