You were asked to carry your card because in the unlikely event that god-forbid you have a sudden cardiac event and need an emergency angioplasty then the medical staff will be alerted to your prior procedure(s)

The stent is a couple of millimeters diameter by 8 or 10 millimeters long which is tiny - and is mesh in construction - it is about the same metal content as a tooth filling. I doubt that it is enough metal to be a problem with the general detectors. That said, a hand held wand at the airport once detected the aluminum in my antiperspirant.

It shouldn't, at one point and time some of the scanners ( metal detectors were thought to interfere with mechanical pacemakers and such. Kind of like a pacemaker and a microwave, but I believe that they have pretty much figured out the bugs in that and have corrected any problems. I do know that any one with a stent, pacemaker or surgical implants (steel rods and such) are required to carry such cards, mostly as a precaution. I run security checkpoints in a prison enviroment and run across this daily.

Definitely carry your card. Then you'll be checked over with a security wand, but don't be stubborn about this. If you are, ole Homeland will delight in making you miss your plane.
