Angela - Yes it is a lot of money. After hearing so many people say illegal immigrants don't pay taxes, I did some checking to find out most of them do pay taxes. It does make me think and my mind is still open to suggestions, good ones at least.

St N - I was looking for for a good, fair, intelligent and positive answer to a complex problem. I believe you can do better than the answer you gave. Your sense of humor is somewhat dark I see.

Charles - I chose the article for my question because it gives facts and shows the least amount of bias. My time for research is limited. Its important to know the truth before drawing conclusions.

Dar - If these people paid SS taxes it should be safe to assume they also paid Federal and State taxes as well. I have yet to check your numbers but I ask you to recalculate taking this into consideration.

Sortega - I am more pro human rights than I am pro illegals. Some should be sent back no doubt but more are crossing our borders each year. I have heard arguments about them taking our jobs and collecting welfare but both of these issues are bogus. The welfare reform act prevents illegals from collecting welfare and I have yet to pass a fast food restaurant that does not have a help wanted sign in the window.

Hexador - you had me right up until you mentioned them being lined up for welfare. I have had many "Legal" immigrants from Mexico, Central America and South America work for me and most of them work two and even three jobs, they do not take breaks and their productivity is substantially better than most others. It is hard for me to believe their "illegal" conterparts would be any different. It is also hard for me to believe with this work ethic they would be lined up for welfare. Do you have any numbers for me?

At six billion a year it doesn't begin to off-set their cost. For example Los Angeles County alone paid $ 1 billion in benefits to illegal immigrants last year, and the state of California paid $10 billion, more than the suspense account for the entire nation last year, according to your article.

Unfortunately, that money doesn't repair schools either. The best that can be said is that those who are paying for the illegals benefits and education through their taxes will eventually retire, and assuming the SS account still exists then, may get some few pennies back on each tax dollar they spent on illegal immigrant benefits.

It should be divided between each state that is swarming with illegals to pay for schools, roads and for the free health care they get, or it should go to free health care for the American citizens, because we have to pay for their schooling and medical anyway. But even with that, they will cost us more in the long run especially if they become citizens then they will be eligible for welfare, and the uneducated legal mothers will be lining up for free money, I would just hope that a work program of, no work no money will be in place.

That article is terribly written. It implys that there is some issue with the money itself, then turns into an article about identity theft.

So 6 billion a year is collected in Social Security taxes that aren't tied to any legitimate SSNs? These are the taxes paid by illegals. this fund will help to underwrite social security for years to come, and will help mitigate the perceived "bankruptcy" of Social Security.

Put it into foreign aid. Also use some of it to build the border fence. And, what's left over, gets used to build schools in Mexico.
Put something in writing with Mexico so they start a social services fund with their own people as a condition of it all, and start taking care of their own. If we do all that, and they're still screwed up, at that point...finish the rest of the fence.

Use it for transportation costs of deportation. Let them pay their own way , once.
