I have MVP over a decade now, I lately started having chest/heart, pain...kind like a puilling, small stab feeling... Does MVP cause chest pain after awhile, is it serious, what can I do to relieve this?

When signs and symptoms do occur with MVP, they can vary widely from one person to another. They tend to be mild, develop gradually and may include:
Mayo Clinic web site lists the following symptoms:
A racing or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia)
Dizziness, lightheadedness
Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, often when lying flat or after physical exertion
Fatigue
Chest pain that's not associated with a heart attack or coronary artery disease.
Johns Hopkins web site lists the following symptoms
Heart palpitations (in 10 to 15 percent of cases).
Shortness of breath, especially when lying flat.
Recurrent lightheadedness, especially when arising from a chair or bed; possible fainting.
General fatigue or weakness
You are much more susceptible to getting an infection in your heart valve than the average person (which sometimes can have origins like brushing your teeth or a sore throat, for instance). An infection in the heart valve would be painful. You also would probably be running a low grade fever and feel generally fatigued.
If I were a betting man, I would not bet that your chest pain is your MVP (it sounds more like a chest wall strain or a muscle strain). Nonetheless if you are having any symptoms of light headedness, fatigue or palpitations AND chest pain then I would have it looked into right away. Also if you are running a mysterious low-grade fever (99-100) with no other known cause, I would have it looked into as well. Finally every so often you should have a observational echocardiogram to ensure that the condition of the valve is stable.

MVP may cause pain for sure, but why now after 10 years of diagnosis?
MVP is not serious unless it had progresed to Mitral Incompentance.
the best treatment for pain associated with MVP is Inderal (propranolol).

It would be wise to see a cardiologist. MVP should not cause pain.

My father had MVP, he never mentioned pain.

If you have pain sometimes infrequently, it may not be a problem. It is better to have routine checkup as advised by the doctor. (may be once in six months)
