You should check your blood 2 hours after eating .A random check could range from 70-149mg./dl. If fasting 70-100mg./dl. Diabetes=126mg./dl. You really should have a hba1c test which tells you what the average blood sugar is for the last 3 months. This should be repeated every 3-6 months. Normal non diabetic is 4.-6. Too high is 9.-210.
Exercise ,healthy eating and weight loss will help improve your levels. If you feel you have a problem its always better to check with your physician. Good luck.

Generally, if one tests their blood sugar after a meal the accepted time to determine accurate results is approximately 2 hours after you finish eating. Thus your assumption that blood sugar would be highest approximatley 30-60 minutes after eating is correct.

A normal/safe reading 2 hours after a meal is between 120-140 whether you are diabetic or not. Diabetics strive to keep their blood sugar under 120, since blood sugar of 120 or higher (fasting - not having eaten anything) is considered pre-diabetic to diabetic. For diabetics a blood sugar higher than 150 usually requires some attention with insulin. Therefore if you test your blood sugar 2 hours after a meal and it is between 120-140 you should be fine. If it is lower than 90 you may have another problem related to your pancreas, liver, or digestive system.

That time frame would be for a food source that will metabolize quickly but it is generally around 2 hours for the full level of glucose to be into the bloodstream. Normal/safe range would be 70-140 mg/dl.
