If your carotid artery is too narrow or plaqued then you could be in a dangerous situation that could possibly lead to a stroke because a blood clot could form in that artery and then travel to your brain where it will cut off blood supply to a part of your brain.

Get it checked out ASAP........some hardening of arteries isn't related to cholesteral but occur genetically. Tell your dr about your sister and get it checked. When someone has that around the heart the pain is caused by new vessels forming around a blockage......makes sense to me that you would have the same sort of thing if it occured in the arteries of you neck too.

I have a medical dictonary, I'll e-mail you questions, and you e-mail me your answers, I'll diagnose you from that. :) oh shoot! I can't e-mail you, I guess I'll just type the questions here.
1) did the pain start within the past 24 hours?
2)has the pain or stiffness been getting worse for serveral months?
3)do you have numbness or tingling in your arm or hand, AND OR are you over 50?
e-mail me your answers at mrthstr@yahoo.com
I hope it's nothing too serious. :)
