It can easily be either.

Cut up some chicken, sausage or pork and mix it all together for a main dish.

Serve it next to baked chicken breast or fish for a side dish.

I eat fried chicken, pork chops, cooked Italian sausage..etc with my dirty rice when its a side dish

When I add hot sausage,and shrimp to the dirty rice.. its a main dish

Its usually a side dish, but toss in some heat it up sauce, red beans and andouille sausage, and eat in style.

It's a side dish unless it has meat added. You eat it with anything Cajun.

Almost any sort of smoked or spiced sausage. You can slice the sausage and cook it in the rice, or serve it on the side. I always serve corn bread with it.

It's a side and is especially good with baked chicken or fish. Keep in mind, with it being a starch, you need a veggie to go with it. Salad, spinach, or asparagus go very well with these.

Both are good for you, each fruit/vegetable has different vitamins. Therefore as more variety, as better. Vegetables have generally less sugar than fruits.
