Should people with coronary heart disease avoid all alcohol? Is red wine is an exception? What would be your advice to some one who has not been taking alcohol all these years? (... except a few glasses of beer / vodka over the years.)

Someone with coronary heart disease may very well be on medications, so I would tell that person to avoid alcohol completely. For a healthy person, tests have shown that the antioxidants, a/k/a flavonoids in one glass of red wine a day can reduce the risk of heart disease through the following (copied from the website below):

-by reducing production of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol (also know as the "bad" cholesterol)

-by boosting high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the good cholesterol)

-by reducing blood clotting. Furthermore, consuming a glass of wine along with a meal may favorably influence your lipid profiles following that meal

Skip the alcohol all together, the research shows the alcohol is not the reason for reduced risk it is the bioflavonoids in the wine that help. Dr John Folts of the university of Madison, WI did this research. Grape seed extract will do the same thing. Or you can acquire his patented formula called Provex CV it is six times more powerful than anything on the market for vascular health.

A little wine has been shown to be beneficial to health. Alchohol to excess, on the other hand, kills.

I'm not gonna get this as the best, but... ethynol thins the blood, making it easier to flow...excess alcohol will make you fat, not helping anything
