Definitely cheese. Good for you (if a little on the fatty side!) tons of calcium, and warms you up after a cold winter day outside!
Chcolate fondue is a little much - the smell of melted chocolate gives me a really bad headache, even though I love to eat chocolate!

Cheese Fondue is better, because it goes with white wine.
Gruyeres and Vacherin Fribourgeois. When you get to the end, add a raw egg and mix it in.
I have never heard it called "fondue savoyarde" here in Switzerland, though I don't doubt that it's called that in France. In Switzerland it's just called "fondue" because it's the standard. Other dippy things have names.

both have their place, how about a cheese fondue followed by a chocolate one? If I had to choose just one it would be cheese though, it's classic.

Ever tried a meat one? Cut excellant quality steak into cubes. Now in the fondue pot (you'll need a gas one, not just a fairy light one), heat a load of sunflower oil. Make various dips eg:
Peanut Satay
Cream cheese and chive
tomatoe salsa
Pesto
Red pepper and coriander
each person has a pile of steak bites. You pop them in the fondue pot until cooked to your preference (I like almost raw) then dip then in the dips.
Brilliant!!!

I think it varies on the time of day, the age of the people, if there are any vegetarians there.
I'm 50/50 as to what I personally like best - at the moment I'd really go for a cheese one tho!
