Blood sugar level should not be higher than 150, if you eat sweet stuff, your pancreas should be able to dissolve the sugar properly. Please be careful and tell your mom to go to the doctor or take her yourself. Make sure she controls her diet. It can be very painful if diabetes is not controlled. My dad has a lot of heart problems and half of his foot has been amputated. Now the doctors are saying that they have to put another bypass in his leg because whatever is left of his foot keeps getting blacker and blacker everyday. After the bypass, it things look better, well that's great, if not, they will have to amputate below the knee. Please take care of your mother, it's a horrible feeling having to accept that your mom or dad in my case might have to live without half of his leg.

I am assuming that you mean that her doctor has not prescribed her any medication because she has been under control through diet and exercise. She needs to continue testing her blood sugar, and if it continues to go up, she needs to schedule an appointment with her doctor. You cannot base starting a new medication on 1 blood sugar reading, have her keep a log to show her doctor what her readings have been.
Keep in mind, it is better to stay of the meds as long as the blood sugar doesn't stay high on a regular basis. If she starts taking meds, they might cause her blood sugar to fall too low.

It could be the yam. Sometimes blood sugars will swing like that for no reason. When mine goes up like that I drink a large glass of cool watr and walk around for a bit. I check again in about 30 min.

the yam is probably what did it! after you eat the sugar can be taken 1-2hours after. 2hrs. is better to get an accurate reading after 2 hrs if it is still high give her a pill. you can also have her take a walk with you this also help the sugar to be used.

You should give her medication as it's prescribed. If the doctor prescribed it to be given if her blood sugar is at certain level and it's reached that level, then yes. !99 is not that high. If you're really in doubt, have her wash her hands and retest. If you're not sure when she supposed to take her medication be sure to call her doctor and find out.

Wait about an hour, take another reading to be sure she's that high....watch her, though! Then put a call in to the doc,...he'll know whether or not to administer the meds....good luck, and prayers.

your mother should be seen by a health care provider to be further evaluated; the 'pill' you mentioned is not identified; is it for diabetes and is it hers?
