Not everyone has it. I've also heard people say EVERY woman has it, which is also NOT true.
HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is one of the most common STDs today. I've read about 75-80% of the world has HPV. Most people are actually able to get rid of it, but for others it stays with the person their entire life. There is currently no cure for HPV, there is only treatment. HPV is contracted through sex (vaginal, oral and anal) and by direct skin to skin contact with the area (like "dry humping").
There are over 100 different kinds of HPV. Most don't do anything, but, a handful can cause cancer and warts. Cervical cancer, anal cancer, penile, head and neck cancer can all be caused by certain strains of HPV. Also, genital warts, hand and feet warts can be caused by HPV.
The main concern with HPV is the cervical cancer in women. Cervical cancer kills 4,000 women a year! It is the second most common kind of cancer in women, after breast cancer.

HPV is a STD. And NO not everyone has it! Around 80% of the sexually active population will come into contact with HPV at some point in their lives, and most do not develop cancer because the virus either does not cause symptoms at all, or the symptoms that do develop are caught early and treated before they have a chance to progress.

Your friend told you wrong, Not everyone has this, Virgins don't have it,Only persons that have HPV are persons that have been diagnose as having a abnormal Pap Smear Test results and the OB/GYN doctor runs certain test and the results come back saying/showing a Positive HPV test. You should Read more than listen to friends and seek advice if you are not sure from persons in the Medical field. Take care and REMEMBER "Knowledge Is Power" Don't Believe everything you hear.

wow...stupid people on this forum
1 in 3 people will have an hpv at some point in their lives. It's the most common STD. But...only like 1% of thoes people will ever develop symptoms. ie-warts.
It's not really a huge concern as they don't really casue any health problems and they usually go away on their own. some HPVs casue cervical cancer...but there is a vacine out now.

HPV is an STD that is in about 80% of sexually active people. Condoms might help to prevent this virus, but you can still get it when using a condom.
View these sites, it might help you get a better understanding:

The reason you have been told to use condoms, is to protect yourself from STD's like HPV. Not everyone has it, and if you don't, then you should probably get the new vaccine they have for that to protect yourself from cancer, just in case. Always use a condom.

No, not everyone has it, that is a fallacy. You contract HPV by direct skin to skin contact and it can cause cervical cancer if women. There is no good test for it in males, and women test by getting a pap smear. A new vaccine against HPV came out a little while ago; I'd recommend everyone to get it if you can, both females and males.

Everyone SHE knows probably has it. You have it if you have been diagnosed after a pap smear that shows positive for HPV. It is almost impossible to track where you got it from because of varying incubation periods. The best way to stay on top of this is by getting yearly pap smears. They are very important.

read up guys and gals! HPV is on the rampage.. It is not only caught by sexual contact.. My physician told me recently that HPV can be picked up by doorknobs (ie bathrooms) toilet seats and sink handles.. (suggestion to all wash hands before and after potty time) I have a 10 year old who tested positive for HPV and is NOT sexually active and no other "intimate" contact. Pediatrician suggested that maybe was picked up from public/school restroom.??
