I have had a real bad pain in my chest for the past 24 hrs or longer. It feels like a stich in my chest on the L hand side and is worse when i breathe in. I am only 25yrs old and i am a smoker, quite heavy. The pain is bad and woke me this morning. Ive had it b4 but not for this duration. Any idea what it could be. My boss said maybe heart burn but i havn't had any spicy food or anything like that??!! Im worried!

My question to you: Why haven't you gone to an MD or the ER? My answer to you: Stop smoking and go to a doctor or emergency room NOW.

You really don't seem to have a clue. How can this be? You are much too young to die, without having really lived.

It sounds like pleurisy, esp since you are a smoker. It is not life threatening but can be very painfull and pinpoint pain. Though even with your young age and the symptoms being on the left side I would be seen.
What is pleurisy?
Pleurisy is swelling (inflammation) of the thin layers of tissue (pleura) covering the lungs and the chest wall.
the outer layer of the pleura lines the inside of the chest wall, and the inner layer covers the lungs. The tiny space between the two layers is called the pleural cavity. This cavity normally contains a small amount of lubricating fluid that allows the two layers to slide over each other when you breathe.
When the pleura becomes inflamed, the layers rub together, causing chest pain. This is known as pleuritic pain.
Pleurisy is sometimes called pleuritis.

If you drink alot of coffee that can cause heartburn believe it or not. And it does not help if a heavy smoker. Better to get it checked out since you are worried about it. Better to be safe then sorry right? And your boss is not a doctor.
Take care and good luck.

I am 30 with heart failure in the past. Doctors have told me if the pain your chest is worse when breathing it's more than likely respitory then cardiac. Whatever it is you should take it serious and go get it checked like right now! 000

It wouldn't hurt to try an antacid. Heartburn in women often brings chest pain but not burning and is not limited to what you eat.

I'd see a doctor if the antacid doesn't make a difference.

My nurse wife, she works on the heart floor, says it could be a lot of things: gull bladder, lung problems, any type of heart condition; go to the Dr. and get it checked out.

Sounds to me like you may have a case of pleurisy. You need to see the doctor and have them check you out, cuz there is always that dreadful chance that something may be wrong with your ticker. Please see your doc asap! It's waaaay better to be safe than sorry.

I hope you feel better soon! Good luck & Best wishes!! :)

could be anxiety/stress, can cause all sorts of pains (whatever you can imagine) & they get worse the more you worry!

could be something to do w/ irritation of lungs, like the lining (called pleura). it's not so serious but you should see MD.

could be acid reflux (not necc. caused by spicy food) or even hernia!

you should see MD, if only to put your mind at ease. good luck.
