You are not going to be able to outrun the restaurant staff, so you should just focus on outrunning your date. Once you are out the door and home free, you should jump in front of a bus for trying to dine and dash.

In the past men usually paid for dates. Nowadays some people might be uncertain as to who should pay for a first date. I suggest that the man offers to pay, and if the woman has no objections then everything is fine.
If the woman wants to pay for half or all of the date then the man should allow her. I don’t think it’s a big deal as to who pays for the date as long as you both have a good time.

I'm sorry, but all these answers miss one BIG detail. In a fine dining setting the bill should not arrive at your table UNTIL YOU ASK FOR IT. After that, it is simple to find out who pays...it's the peson who asked for it. At least it will be up to him/her to divvy up the bill if it is being shared.
If a bill shows up on your table automatically, this is a clue that you are NOT at a 'fine dining' venue. Maybe I'm old-fashioned but that's the way it SHOULD happen.

Who invited whom? The person who extended the invitation should flip the bill. The other person, to be civil and polite, should offer to pay, or help pay, but the offer should be refused. Unless you've both agreed ahead of time that it will be "Dutch treat" in which case each person pays for only what he or she ordered. Friends will usually split the bill evenly though-at least, that's been my experience.

in my line of work, i greatly appreciate tips. i just heard a story (which is true) about a girl who is in the same line of work who i shall say tattoos out at miami along with a shop in hollywood. for our really good friend's birthday party, her and her old man totally shafted the rest of the party with a shortage of pay on their check and gladly walked out the door. now, mind you, this person makes way more money then the rest of us who aren't "rock stars", and they ended up paying the least amount of money possible for an exspensive dinner in which they have consumed. to answer your question, pay a fair amount for service and quality. you have to remember, the server doesn't cook your food, but still put yourself in their situation.

when the relationship is fairly new, the man should always pay the bill...if you end up dating for a long time you should offer....unless he's rich.

i guess you could do what some of our friends did at a nice dinner we went out to recently. the couple im referring to star on a popular t.v. show that I won't name but it starts with m and ends in ink!!! when the bill came, they smoothly said their goodbyes and left everyone else at the table (it was a bday party, so there were about 15 of us) to cover their part of the check!! can you believe that!!!! nothing but class......

go with a quick lunch first then go from there
