It is a common misconception that hepatitis C is a venereal disease. IT IS NOT. There is NO risk as far as contracting it through unprotected monogamous heterosexual sex. It is spread through IV drug use and tainted blood back before 1992 when blood wasn't tested. You can also get hep C through dirty tattoo needles and by sniffing coke with infected paraphenalia.

Hepatitis C is a blood borne pathogen. In other words, it is spread from blood to blood, NOT through semen or vaginal fluid. The risk of sexual trasmission is low among monogamous couples; less than 5%. If your sexual practices involve sticking each other with pins or needles, then the risk is high, but for typical, "normal" sex it is unlikely.

Hep C in carried in blood, semen, and vaginal fluid, so your chances of spreading it to your partner without protection are very hight. In fact, the virus is much smaller than that of Hep B or HIV, so it's infectivity is greater.

The risk of transmission through sex may be higher among men who have sex with men. The risk is also increased if there are genital sores or ulcers from a sexually transmitted infection, or if either person also has HIV.
