I heard sugar was processed through bone, and Pepsi has sugar. That's why I'm asking.

Maybe...It gets complicated. The comments about sugar being processed thru bone are valid but depending on your local bottler there may be no sugar but instead high fructose corn syrup(HFCS).
While certainly vegan HFCS may have problematic health effects.
Additionally all colas contain caramel color which traditionally is made from processed sugar but is often obtained from non-sugar sources today (that would be vegan).
Another potential source of trouble is the natural flavors that Pepsi contains. Pepsi derives it's name from the enzyme pepsin which is derived from animal stomachs! It was originally an ingredient used in this cola but there is no public data as to whether or not it is still added to this cola.
Just to get even more complicated (and at the same time point suspicion at all colas) per the FDA Civet Oil is on the GRAS (generally recognized as safe) list as a flavoring ingredient used in colas. Civet Oil is obtained from the anal gland of the Civet cat and is also commonly used/known as Musk (i.e.perfume). Once again there is no public information about who puts it in cola but rumors point toward both Coke and Pepsi along with RC cola and Mr. Cola.
Additionally both these chemicals have synthetic substitutes that would be considered vegan.

I have asked the major soda companies about whether their products would be "safe" for vegetarians and/or vegans and *NONE* would directly answer yes/no but instead skated around the question!

To sum up as a vegetarian I'd be wary of all colas and a vegan should think really hard about what they're drinking!

Depends on how strict a vegan you want to be. While there isn't anything that isn't vegan in Pepsi, some vegans don't eat sugar because it's been refined using bone char. There isn't any bone char in the sugar itself, it's just used as a filtering agent. Many vegans protest to using anything from an animal to make a product, regardless of if the final product contains animal products or not. So, the true answer to your question depends on if you define sugar as vegan.

no actually pepsi IS NOT vegan. one of its ingredients is processed sugar and the majority processed sugar is whitened with a process that uses animal bones. this is about 75% of the time so just dont take the chance. :)

It depends on your definition of vegan. Even if Pepsi has no actual animal ingredients listed in it, some vegans will look at the corporation, and decide if human or animal suffering occured in the making of the product, and decide whether or not to consume it based on that.

So Pepsi, I don't know, but I do know some vegans who won't drink Coke because of alleged murders, kidnappings and torture around Coke's plant in Columbia

Pepsi is vegan. Sugar is not processed with bones. There are no bones in Pepsi. If you choose to be vegan for health reasons you won't drink Pepsi because its very unhealthy. If you choose it for humanitarian reasons you can drink it.
