Actually, it's extremely rare in Japan. Don't let anyone kid you that it's a common thing here!
Think of it as like S&M clubs in your own country - they may exist, but most people don't have clue where they are, and very few people actually go there!

BTW, they're covered with either a thin gauze or cling film (saran wrap) if reports are to be believed. And from the articles I'VE read, it seems to be more popular in China and America than here in Japan...!! (That should tell you something ...)
