Dry mouth. Some people with diabetes complain of dry mouth. This may be caused by medicines you take. You may notice a dry mouth if your blood sugar levels are high. A dry mouth can increase your risk of cavities, because there's less saliva to wash away germs and take care of the acids they create. Dry mouth can sometimes lead to other problems, such as salivary gland infections.

If you have dry mouth, try drinking more fluids. You can also try chewing sugar-free gum or sugar-free candy to help keep the saliva flowing. Some people use saliva substitutes, available at drug stores.

Keeping your teeth and mouth healthy requires a team effort. You're the most important person on this team to do the day-to-day mouth care. If you have questions or concerns, talk to a team member. Remember, good dental health can create a healthy mouth and a smile that will last a lifetime.

Dry Mouth Bitter Taste

The dry mouth is due to being a mouth breather when a person sleeps, you know mouth wide open and breathing hard, most people don't even know they do it, as for the taste you tend to not swollow alot when you sleep because some people don't produce alot of saliva, unlike the ones that drownd in it. During the day we constintly make saliva and swallow every few minutes so think of it as a mini mouth wash with out the mint.

1. You breath through your mouth when you sleep, causing it to be dry.

2. You forgot to brush & floss your teeth glargle your mouth (try water with a pinch of salt) & scrap your tongue. Dental hygiene is one of the major cause of smelly mouth, especially after night's sleep.

3. You're about to fall sick. Sometimes our body has a way of sending us signal on our immunity system. It could be you're not taking in enough water (plain clear water, not soda coffee tea juice). Try drinking a glas before you sleep, keep a glass of water by the bedside and bottoms up when you get up.

Well, many of us sleep with our mouths open- so that's probably a good reason. And if there's a bad taste in it- that's usually because we didn't brush our teeth before going to bed, OR we decided to have that last piece of anchovy pizza just before turning in... :)
