Sorry Willow, but I do have a horor stor about it. The government is banning us from bagged spinach until they can figure out where the E. Coli is coming from. Don't eat anymore!!

Certainly not any organic spinach, the stuff will kill you. Who said organic is safer? Ask the families of those who died if they trust organic anymore.

Organic spinach appears to be the culprit behind a 20-state outbreak of deadly E. coli poisoning, casting further doubt on greens' claims that "organic is safer."

The outbreak has already killed an elderly woman and an infant.

Dr. David Acheson of the FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition said the number of people who have fallen ill from E. coli nationwide is 114, reflecting several new cases reported Monday. In addition to the 15 Utah cases, Wisconsin reported 32 cases and the one death attributed to the bacteria, Ohio 10, Indiana 8 and New York 7. Seventeen other states reported from one to six cases.

I was offered a bag today. There is absolutely NO way I am going to eat it.

With the scare of health issues associated with spinach, I think, for at least a month, it would be unwise to attempt to eat any.

I won't until the FDA clears it. We're not even eating salads right now. I miss my greens, you can't make a good fresh salad from cooked frozen spinach, so we're stuck for a while. And trust me, I live near the outbreak and the supermarket has already pulled most of the greenery. :(

Nope not available!

FDA recalled all fresh spinach, the only spinach available would be from a private garden.

Until they find the source of the ECOLI you will not see spinach in the stores until FDA says its ok.

Hope that helps you.

no, but I have had some lamb's quarters.

It tastes exactly like spinach, but its a common weed! It's a bit fussy to prepare, as the stems are too chewy so you have to pull off the little leaves one at a time.

I guess that's why only gourmets seem to know about it... (and me! A gardener who likes spinach but finds it too fussy to grow)

No, but my friend bought some by the brand that had the outbreak. He said that he had a bad stomach ache and that's it.
