Depends on what's in it that's not good. If you buy the commercial stuff, then try to make it from scratch eliminating the stuff that 's not good for you - like sugar, salt, etc. Try recipes.com for some recipes.

Good morning. Looks like you're getting a good variety of answers here. If you follow the strictest of cardiac diets you can boil it all down to one statement, "If it tastes good...spit it out!" I'm trying to lighten it up here a bit! There is absolutely nothing wrong with applesause unless of course that's all you eat. Most marketed applesause is unsweetened or desweetened. It's a simple carbohydrate with just about all of the important fiber removed. I'm told that there is a lot of benefit in the apple peel too so you won't get that in applesause either but it still tastes really good!
The only honest constructive thing to say about applesause is that it's not a good complete food. It truly is a snack. Can't hurt you and probably can't help you much either. I wouldn't even give it a second thought. Concentrate on less fat in the diet, more good quality fiber (challenging to get and it isn't available in that canister of potty powder from Walmart), watch the salt intake, if you like red meat (I sure do!) then get the leanest stuff you can find. Don't forget to get some excercise in as well. That can help on a lot of levels.
Hope this helps. Jeff the nurse in Nashville

Maybe the wife is concerned about the sugar in the applesauce. There are a lot of very good applesauce varieties without added sugar. Choose the natural varieties and those with cinnamon are very good too.

WHY?! My husband has had 2 heart attacks and has five stents in his heart. He is on a heart healthy diet prescribed by the hospital(John Hopkins) and on the menu is applesauce so who is telling you this and what is their explanation? Not all the time everyday because of the carbs but I think they must have a different kind of applesauce than mine.

You are possibly referring to industrialized Apple Sauce which
does contain anti-oxidants, and possibly flavor or artificial aromas.
If this is the case, have your Apple Sauce made at home, it is
fresh and better than ready made bought sauce and will do you
no harm.

Fresh apples should be okay, shouldn't they? Why not enjoy the real thing?
Lots of applesauce has extra sugar, which is bad if you are diabetic. But fresh apples have lots of fiber (especially in the skin) and other nutrients.

Not really sure but maybe it has something to do with all of the extra sugar...
Try some unsweetened applesauce or the baby-food applesauce that doesnt have any of the extra additives.

You can eat applesauce just get the unsweetened kind. Your doctor should have given you a list of foods to eat and not eat. If he/she didn't then ask them for one.
My boyfriend had a heart attack and unsweetened applesauce is on the list of things to eat.

I think you need to talk to your doctor about what is and what isn't good for you. I don't see any problems with applesauce and have no clue why your wife would think it was bad for you.
What you want to watch are foods high in cholesterol and high in sodium (salt).

Apple sauce is fine without sugar. It is just a fruit.
