my friend is 48 has been diagnosed recently and doesnt smoke, however her husband does.

Her life expectancy will depend on lifestyle from here on out. Her husband needs to quit smoking or at least quit it around her. She needs to be vigilant about her Dr appointments and medication schedule. She needs to keep some level of activity and avoid eating carbs where possible. She will probably have years, but no one can ever say for sure.

If her husband keeps smoking, he will cut her life expectancy down, it is just how compliant she is with her drugs and if she takes good care of herself.

I have a friend with emphysema , who used to smoke, who is 78, and still fit.

It depends on the severity of the disease and how compliant with treatment the person is.

you can live a long life but you should avoid smoke and dust.there is no cure but you can slow its progress. good luck
