I want to know if anyone has tested positive for hpv and if so what happens? I got tested and was fine but a few weeks later the doctor told me to come in to check again, the nurse said I tested positive for hpv and I have to go back in for treatment And I'm scarred. She said she'd paint the cervix with something and do a biopsy where she removes tissue from inside. I'm really scarred because I don't want to be in pain and I don't wan't to be affected by this forever, I try to take care of my health and then this happens, does it happen from just having unprotected sex? Because I am just with one person now. Also I smoke, mainly weed, do you think that could be making it worse? Anything to help ease my mind would be much appreciated, thanks.

I tested positive for HPV a few years ago. They painted my cervix and took a biopsy, which didnt really hurt, just felt like small cramps. I had alot of abnormal cells so I had to have them taken off with a laser, normally they just freeze them off. I went to the specialist and he gave me some shots in my cervix, which I was unable to feel, and then went in with the laser. He had a camera on the thing, so I could see my cervix on the tv screen, kind of weird! Anyways, he lasered them off and it only took about 15 minutes or so and I didnt feel a thing. It wasn't a big deal. If you arent treated though you can get Cervical Cancer. It wasnt bad, I am sure you will be ok!

For most people HPV does nothing and goes away on its own. For others, it can cause cancer and warts and will never go away. There is no cure for HPV, on;y treatment. Cervical cancer is the main concern with HPV. It kills 4,000 women a year and is the second most common cancer in women.

I have had two abnormal pap smears in the last 5 years and two colposcopys done (pretty close to a biopsy). The first one was pre-cancerous cells which eventually turned into cervical cancer when I was 17 years old.

Sounds like you had an abnormal pap smear, which now they want you to come back and do a biopsy to further test the tissue. The doctor will usually use a vinegar type substance that basically "lights up" any abnormal cells you have on your cervix. They then take a small tissue sample and send it to the lab. For me, it didn't so much hurt, like pain, it was more like the worst menstrual cramps I have ever had. Having this done makes you cramp SO bad. My doctor told me before I had this done to take a few Ibuprofen before I saw her.

As for the weed thing, you'll have to ask your doctor about that if you really want to know. I honestly have no idea if that would affect you or not.

I have been diagnosed with HPV. they paint your cervix with a vinager solution and then take a colopo which is a biopsy there is alot of cramping but for most it does not hurt. I would advise not to take any tylenol because it does thin your blood and cause you to bleed more when they are doing it. If they do a biopsy and find dyspalsia then will depend on what treatment goes from there. I would not worry about anything untill they biopsy has been done.

Well, your doctor will let you know. HPV can cause cervical cancer. If there are abnormal cells on your cervix, then your doctor would decide which procedure to use. My doctor used the LEAP or LEEP procedure. It is basically burning that bad tissue away. It eventually will grow back. Kinda like when a starfish looses a leg. WEIRD!

They say not to smoke or drink if you have hpv because it lowers your immune system and can make the precancerous cells worse. Your body can wipe out the virus so stop smoking. My doctor explained it to me like the chicken pox, once you have it and your body fights it off your fine.
