if during the actual heart attack if you think about aspirin, sure you can take it... but it will not do any good. The best time to take aspirin is before any heart attack over a period of time. Most heart attacks are due to clogging of the arteries. Taking aspirin only thins the blood. If your arteries are clogged no blood is passing anyway.

Get a check up and discuss it with your doctor.

Hi,

The first thing that should be done is absolutely calling 911 or if you have a medic alert. If you don't have any allergies or ulcers to ASA, then that shouldn't be a problem but the regular ASA 325 mg or any ASA takes about 30 min to 1 hour to work. A liquid ASA or sublingual ASA would work faster. But my concern would be running around looking for an aspirin.

When someone has a heart attack, you don't want to put more demand on the heart by walking around or running around. The person needs to be in a resting position sitting up or lying down depending if someone is with the person.until help comes.

I saw my father have a heart attack, and he was lying down with no more stress on his heart. He looked greyish, sweating and had chest pain. I had heard by squeezing the left pinky finger during a heart attack can keep circulation open. Of course, that is something I read somewhere many many years ago, so that's what I did. Don't know if it really helped but he did survive.

Coughing during a heart attack would scare me because I don't believe it is like CPR. You are putting more strain on the heart by coughing but if patients ask the doctor beforehand if a heart attack does occur when you are alone and the dr says it won't make the heart attack worse, then I guess you can do it.

If the person is sitting up, then that should keep the person awake enough until the ambulance came.

What I was taught was if you have any slight chest pain, then you take your nitroglycerin tablets every 5 minutes for 15 minutes, if the pain is still there, then you can take a 4th nitroglycerin tablet and immediately call 911. If the pain is a stabbing chest pain, call 911 immediately because that is a heart attack.

At the on set of a heart attack you can take an aspirin (acts as a blood thinner, reduces stress on your heart) call 911...fire department usually arrives first and they always have a defibrillator. Not all ambulances have them depending where you are from. Do not force yourself to cough that is an urban myth and puts more strain on your heart.

there are so many reasons why we have heart attacks...taking aspirin during attacks is a big No No... there are certain diseases that causes attacks that aspirin is contraindicated..aspirin is used as anti coagulant but doesnt really disolves clots Heparin and coumadin does that job...aspirin is used for maintenance not during emergencies...this drug thins the blood making it easier for our blood vessels to deliver blood which helps the heart to decrease its force to pump blood...if the cause of your attacks is Infarction , aspirin is given. infarction is brought about by clogs in a vessel that makes it difficult for the blood to pass causing a decrease in oxygen delivery to our system then it signals the heart to pump more blood...too much force of contraction the heart gets exhausted ,once its oxygen supply is used up it leads to an arrest... We dont want that to happen right? during attacks you have to conserve your energy, assume a comfortable position that can help you breathe easily and lessens the pain...ask someone to bring you to a hospital as soon as possible...if you have a supply of isordil at home take it every 5 minutes for a maximum of three..if pain persist, go to the hospital...if you have the nitro patch, place it and lie down...dont move too quckly or vigorously... nitro patch and so with isordil causes dizziness and lowers down your blood pressure...you have to monitor your BP...if it helped make an appointment to your Doctor for further examination and intervention... Aspirin is widely use to different type of illness but you need to know its contraindication and side effects..Bleeding is one of its life threatening side effects...Dont give aspirin to a sick kid, it would lead to Reyes Syndrome( severe mental retardation)...thats about it...hope i was of help....prevention is the best cure!
