We are doing a lesson for the class and we're talking about the invention of cotton candy and the ferris wheel. So it's like a carnival theme. How can we get the audience involved?

Let the audience participate by renting the cotton candy machine(very easy to find at a rental store) and let them try and do it themselves after some demonstration. Also teach them how and why the ferris wheel was invented that always goes a long way in teaching

You can dress up as a clown, give out tickets for every correct answer or great question ask. At the end the people that have tickets get prizes. ( I usually make sure everyone has a ticket though).
