Sure...You can have a picnic in your living room and grill on the barbecue in your backyard. And, the barbecue could be cooking on the grill, with the picnic in your backyard! =o)

No. A barbecue as the name suggest is whereby you would barbecue stuff at your home etc and invite a few friends, while a picnic is usually just family and the food is already done and taken to a picnic area, like the beach or a park etc.

I think barbecues and picnics are not exactly the same,
although both have food and drinks and people enjoying it
in an open or outdoor surroundings.
Barbecue things are more to do with the grilling, frying or
burning of meats, sausages, poultry, fish, crabs, prawns etc.
in an open pit or in barbecue equipment. Here, the tables,
chairs and table cloths are laid out in the open with wines,
spirits, rolls of bread, butter, wineglasses, fruits etc placed on
top of tables. People gather around, talk, sing songs, laughter,
be merry, eat and drink etc in jovial moods.
Whereas, picnic things are related to foods in the baskets,
like chicken, ham, beef sandwiches, fruits, wines and wine-
glasses, fruit juices all placed on top of a serving blanket cloth
on the grass ground with a view of a lake. Here, the members
of a family gather around, with some standing, some sitting,
and there is laughter, crack jokes, singing as well as eating
and drinking too.

No, A bbq is hot food, cooked outside.
A picnic is cold food cooked previously.

BUT... The rednecks in North Carolina call a pig roast a Pignic or a Pig picnic but they are mostly morons so who care what they do.

no they are not the same. a picnic is some sandwiches and juice taken in a park somewhere. Traditional Texas BBQ'ing is slow smoking meats for hours to get that nice smoked flavor throughout the meat. Grilling is cooking fast over a propane burner or charcoal.

NO.. A barbeque assumes that you will be cooking your food over an heat source on a grill..

A picnic is a pre-made meal eaten in the open air.

Nope. BBQ's require a grill. Picnics require a blanket and a prepacked food that you eat.. I guess you could grill at a picnic but its not required.

A picnic is just like... you pack your lunch and then you bring it to a bench, picnic table, blanket etc. Its just a different place to eat.

BBQ: Anywhere + Grilling your food.
