That all depends on who you ask! Or how much money someone's making on it!
I was in the cardiac care unit and the nurses refused to let me have my much needed coffee! I was never so glad to get out of there. Take my wife but don't mess with my coffee as the old saying goes!
Here's the deal- When I leave the hospital I go to my cardiologist for a one wek check up. I'm reading a magazine in HIS office that now says they discovered coffee has healthy effects on cardiology patients! How amazing! And on through the article it also mentions chocolate as another life saving investment for heart patients!
Who are we to believe? I do know stress will definitely raise the old pressure right off the charts! However, if you have high blood pressure and haven't seen your cardiologist- you're playing with fire!!!

Both coffee and chocolate contain caffeine, which is a stimulant and can increase blood pressure.

I'm not really sure about why this would cause stress, however. Usually, stress is caused by outside circumstances.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

Don't laugh at me but meditating is a really good way to relieve stress. Sitting in a quiet calm area outside or inside and just relaxing every muscle. Take a deep breath in and hold it for a second then release and when you do let out all the tention. Listen to some soothing music for a while. Personally listening to piano relaxes me. If thats not ur thing thing try learning how to play an insturment. Sure at first it might be irratating but after you get it it will make you feel awesome to create music. You could try song/poem writing. Just vent about everything yout feeling into songs. Haha may not be your thing but i also like to take bubble baths every once and a while with like good smelling bath salt. and again listening to soothing music. Hope some of it helps. =)

I'm sure the caffeine content does. My dad has heart disease, pretty bad, too diseased for them to do anything for him. He has 1 cup of coffee in the mornings to "get his blood pumping", but after that he tries to avoid caffeine the rest of the day.

I'd say coffee does. Chocolate, probably not so much.
