Kissing is wonderful and exciting. It’s also a fairly easy way to transmit a respiratory infection (like a cold) and a few other conditions. The reality is that mouth-to-mouth contact is an efficient way to spread illness.
Oral herpes (usually called cold sores or fever blisters) is caused by a viral infection. The virus is called Herpes Simplex and infections may occur once or return again and again. Herpes Simplex cold sores generally start with itchiness and tingling, followed by blisters which burst to leave open sores. These sores crust over and eventually heal after a few days.
To lower your risk when kissing, do a quick visual “inspection” of the other person’s lips. Most cold sores are fairly obvious. Ask your partner about any blisters you see. The surest way to avoid herpes during a partner’s outbreak is to avoid mouth-to-mouth contact and oral-genital contact, too. Herpes can be spread from the mouth to the genitals, causing genital herpes.
You cannot contract HIV from french kissing.

Yes! You can indeed get a disease from French kissing. You can catch herpes type 2 aka a cold sore. Also French kissing is so intense that it may lead to sex and sex can cause a whole bunch of diseases aka stds or stis for example you can get herpes, big, aids, and also genitle worts. Only some are curable. Also sex can lead to an unwanted pregnancy which is not fun! I'm not saying that you should never French kiss trust me it seems fun and exciting and passionate and just so lovely, but your definitely going to want to look at the consequences and be careful!

if both people have open wounds/sores in their mouth it's possible to transmit the HIV virus. Other diseases that are spread through french kissing are Herpes, warts, mono(known as the kissing disease) and possibly Hepatitis A

There are a number of things one could get, especially if the other kisser has been in a particularly yuckie place...
Herpes comes to mind, as does chlamydia. Gonorrhea is documented to have been passed on in this fashion.
Plus, there's the old standby, mononucleosis. Not to mention other more mundane things, like the common cold.
Know who you kiss... and where they've been!

No bad effects are recorded from french kissing, but it really is one step away from sex, so be careful. A unwanted pregnacy is far worse.

Yep, although they say the risk is ever so slight. Other than HIV, you could get "mono" or "Strep", neither are as bad as HIV. Or you could just get hooked and happy.
