paranoid about HIV/aids?

Question

I am a university student, and renting room outside the campus. it a share house. I find my roommate coughing and stuff. and I am scared and paranoid about HIV and AIDS. Since i live in sharehouse i have no idea of my roommates past and so on. If he has AIDS he could deliberately infect others by shooting them with needles or something. So I am very scared to cook, because i cant see what he would do when he walk past my back or something. Am I too paranoid or what? I am biologically not attracted to his his appearance or attitude. What should i do? Am I just paranoid? or what to do ? BTW if somebody stab you with needle can you actually feel it? or could be be painless at all?

If you fell like you cant trust your room mate maybe it is time to move on.A person cant go threw life being scared of other people all the time a cough will not give HIV or hip.a,b,or c,might give T.B.and yes if he sticks you in the back with a needle you will be able to feel it.Is this the first time away from home.Being paranoid some time is good but to much can kill you.Be cool it probably not as bad as you think.

Ok. Firstly, I would suggest talking to a doctor about all this. They may refer you to a counselor or a psychologist for a bit of health. What you are feeling is unhealthy for you and is probably indicative of some underlying problems. If those problems can be resolved, you'll feel a lot better.

It is not the goal of folks with AIDS to infect others. Unless you are going to have sex with him, don't worry about it.

Yes, one could deliberately infect others with AIDS by injecting them. The victim would most assuredly feel it and rather quickly have him arrested. If it turned out to be an AIDS thing, then the infector would be seriously prosecuted. That isn't how AIDS is generally spread. It happens, but it is very rare and the person who does it generally has a few other problems.

Unless someone shows tendencies to jab people with needles, I wouldn't worry too much here. Shooting people with needles is even further out.

One other thing. Coughing isn't really a good sign for AIDS or HIV. It's probably a cold, allergies, bronchitis, etc.

just because someone coughs doesnt mean he has aids i think you are way too paranoid and even if he did he would'nt inflict that sort of illness on someone unless he is a very sick individual people with aids/hiv dont go and deliberately give it to everyone else they come in contact with and i think if someone was to stab you with a needle you would feel it why share a room if you are that paranoid about things like that and if we were all like you we would never get on with our lifes dont let this take over your life or you will never have a relationship with anyone friendship or romantic

Honestly, I think you should go to the campus health center and explain your fears to them.

They will explain in detail the ways in which disease spreads, give you hints and tips about preventing disease and probably give you a few pamphlets.

They will also, most likely, refer you to some kind of counselor, because your fears are WAY out of proportion to any problem that exists, unless your roommate has threatened to give you AIDS!

Seriously, you need to talk to someone about this. The fact that you mentioned that you are not attracted to him gives a hint that the real fear may be something a bit more confusing than fear of someone sneaking up while you aren't looking and giving you AIDS.

Talking with a professional will help the fear go away. I promise.

Yes, you are paranoid. IF you're under the influence of something or really concentrated/focus on something, there's a possibility that you may not feel the needle if it is stabbed into you. But if you're that paranoid, you should move out with someone you trust.

Sounds like you need to do a lot of research on HIV/AIDS. I don't think it's That easy to catch, like eating something in the food. It has to be injected into the bloodstream, like with anal sex or needles, as you've said. Yes, you would definetely feel it if you were stabbed with a needle, unless you were asleep or something. If you are truly afraid he might do something to you behind your back, you need to move or something, even if it's in another part of the building.

i think ur giving the problem a lot more than it deserves...do u know for sure ur roomate has aids??why would he stab u on purpose.i think u are afriad and u have all the right to b if this oerson hiv positive and aggressive and like to infect others.but this is not the case here..is it?

Everything you mentioned "could happen", but probably wouldn't. However if you're this uncomfortable, maybe you should move to another place. The stress of living with someone you don't trust or even like, is a lot to cope with on top of university studies. You should be able to feel safe and comfortable in your own home

Whoa! Sounds like you need to move out of that house for many reasons and your paranoia just being at the top of the list. First you need to educate yourself of about aids and HIV and if that doesn't enlighten you, then you need to talk to somebody maybe your counselor at school, it sounds like you have deep rooted issues that need to be addressed as soon as possible so you can get on with your education! OK, dude...slow down, take a deep breath...I think you are freaking out about nothing. What makes you even think he has aids, and has needles? Why on earth would he want to stab you with a needle?
