can someone tell me how to cook chinese broccoli? i was planning to steam it but i was wondering how long it should take, also a simple sauce for it.

Chinese broccoli from my mom's hometown was famous.. so we have it very often on our dinning table. Some simple recipes here for your reference.

<<<<<< Boil Chinese Broccoli >>>>>>>

500 g Chinese Broccoli (washed and cut 3 inches diagonally)
1 tablespoon peanut oil
1 slice of ginger (crushed)
a pinch of salt
1.5 tablespoon oyster sauce

1) Heat water in a pot, bring to boil, put oil, ginger and salt into the water, boil for a few seconds, put the Chinese Broccoli in the water, cook for 2 minutes or till the Broccoli is soft (don't over cook it)
2) Drain well, dip the oyster sauce when serve.

<<<<<< Stir fry Chinese broccoli with Chinese Sausage >>>>>>

1 Chinese sausage (lap cheung, you can get it in chinese grocery store or supermarket), sliced
600 g Chinese broccoli (washed, cut 3 inches diagonally), drain well
1 clove garlic (minced)
1 slice ginger (crushed)
1.5 tablespoon cooking wine
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon corn starch
2 teaspoon water
2 tablespoon peanut oil or cooking oil
50 cc water
a few drops of sesame oil

1) Mix soy sauce, water, corn starch together in a bowl, set aside
2) Heat the wok over high heat, when the wok is real hot, add oil, stir fry the ginger and garlic real quick for 10 seconds, add the Chinese sausage, stir fry for 30 seconds (the oil would come out a bit and you can smell the fragrance)
3) Add Chinese broccoli into the wok, stir fry 30 seconds, sprinkle wine, add 50 cc water and sugar, then stir fry for 2 minutes, add salt, stir fry till the broccoli soft and pour the soy sauce mixture into the wok, stir fry till the sauce is thicken. Turn off the heat.
4) Sprinkle a few drops of sesame oil to make the mixture shiney. Serve on plate.

<<<<<< Stir fried Chinese broccoli with salty fish >>>>>>>

600 g Chinese broccoli (wash / cut 3 inches diagonally)
50 g salty fish (cut into cubes) (you can find it in Chinese grocery store)
2 slices of fresh ginger (cut into strips)
1 glove of garlic (minced)
1 red Thai chili (seeded and sliced)
50 cc water
1/2 teaspoon sugar
2 tablespoon peanut oil / cooking oil
1 tablespoon cooking wine

1) Heat the wok over medium heat, add oil and ginger, stir fry till fragrant, add salty fish cubes, reduce heat to low, fry for 2 minutes or till the salty fish cooked.
2) turn heat to high, add garlic & Chinese broccoli and stir fry for 30 seconds, add cooking wine, stir fry quickly, add water & sugar stir fry till the sauce dry. Sprinkle chili into the wok, turn off the heat.
3) Taste the vegetable, add salt if desire. Serve on plate.

1. You can clean and boil them. Lay them out on an oval plate.
2. Slice the chinese broccoli stems diagonally. Stir fry with sliced carrots and some meat.

Note: Always wash and rinse your vegies at least 3 times.
